Introduction to BIKASH

Located in beautiful Pokhara, BIKASH Nepal is considered with the public health problems of Nepal (such as Leprosy, HIV/AIDS and TB). BIKASH is a non-governmental non profit making organization registered in Kaski district. It was formerly known as Green Pastures Training Centre (GPTC) which became independent from International Nepal Fellowship (INF) in 2005. BIKASH Nepal is working towards sustaining the activities carried out by GPTC and putting additional efforts to serve people through building the capacity of service providers to meet its vision. The organization does so by facilitating a wide range of courses in the medical field. In this way BIKASH meets its name: Building In Knowledge, Attitude and Skills for Health.

News-The sixth General Assembly of BIKASH Nepal

The sixth BIKASH General Assembly was held at BIKASH Training Centre on the 29th of August. The Local Development Officer of Kaski District Mr. Guru Subedi was invited as chief guest of the ceremony, while Mr. Ganesh Pakhrin, the Chairman of BIKASH Nepal, hold the chairmanship of this function.

Dignitaries from various Government and NGO institutions attended the first opening session and expressed their good wishes for the success of the assembly. For the great courage, patience and dedication in leprosy work and being herself a leprosy affected person, Miss Parwati Oli was honoured and felicitated by BIKASH Nepal. She was awarded with a letter of appreciation, which was presented by the chief guest of the ceremony.

The summarized annual activities repost and financial report over the period of fiscal year 2056/067 and proposed plan and budget for following fiscal year was presented by the Secretary Mr. Tukbahadur Harijan and The treasurer Mr. Dhanu Giri at the second closed held in the afternoon. The majority of BIKASH Nepal lifetime members and the general members were present in this session. Some creative and constructive suggestions were received from the members and advisors were received for further development of the organization before the ratification of presented reports and proposed plan and budget.

The subsequent BIKASH executive meeting reviewed this event thoroughly and concluded that this was one of the most successful general assemblies of BIKASH Nepal. The meeting thanks each one of those who contributed making this event so successful.

News- National Strategic Planning Workshop Kathmandu

Strategic PlanningIn the joint efforts of the Ministry of Health and Population, the Leprosy Control Division and the World Health Organisation organised the Strategic Planning Workshop to formulate the national strategic plan for further reducing the disease burden due to leprosy for the period of 2011-2015.  The workshop was held in Kathmandu from 25-27 October 2010. It was a very well planned workshop actively participated by all relevant partners and stakeholders. At the end of 3rd day, the workshop came up with recommendations and commitments to working towards reaching the target of reducing the rate of new case with disability grade 2 per 100,000 population by at least 35% by the end of 2015, compared to the baseline at the end of 2010.
