To develop human resources required to serve people living with severe forms of ailment affecting physical, mental and socio-economic aspects of human life.
BIKASH exists to develop high standard skills and knowledge of service providers involved in providing appropriate health care and rehabilitation services to people living with HIV & AIDS leprosy, disability and tuberculosis.
After BIKASH Nepal became independent from INF, it became the only training provider to support the government’s leprosy elimination programme in the whole of western region of Nepal. The training centre has been providing comprehensive leprosy training to basic health services (BHS) staff working in peripheral health units since last 15 years. A further in-service training on prevention of disability is given to improve their skills after certain time interval. Beside this BIKASH provides intensive leprosy training courses to doctors (Medical Officers), Public Health Officers and District TB/Leprosy assistant to build/improve their capacity to offer primary referral service, supervision and monitoring skills at district. These training activities will continue to run as long as the need exists and that the fund becomes available.
BIKASH is also involved in building the capacity through special training of BHS and NGO staff working in the vulnerable districts like Kaski, Rupandehi and Nawalparasi. They are given a well designed comprehensive course on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. A refresher course as well as further course on counselling skills, care and support is also be given to selected NGO and BHS staff. In 2006, BIKASH organised a course on Community and Home Based Care training to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and their caretaking family members. As this was a very well received course by the participants, BIKASH plans to organise the course again in future.
The training centre runs 2 international courses on Rehabilitation and Prevention of Disability (RPOD) and Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) every year. People from different parts of the world participate in these special courses. The international courses and various other training courses we organise at our training centre generate local income. The training facilities (conference hall, hostel and guesthouse and audio-visual equipment) we own are well managed and usually occupied by other NGO/INGO also contributes to earn local income.
